Frequently Asked Questions

Individual tuition is provided for children and adults of all abilities, children between the ages of 5 and 18.

Currently, lessons follow the existing school terms.

I teach lessons from my home, where I hope to provide a relaxed and comfortable environment, whilst learning to play the piano.

Not at all, you will be surprised how many places you will be able to go and practise in Coventry: schools, Churches, colleges, universities, music shops and rehearsal studios to name a few all have pianos that you might be able to practise on for a small fee. Many students also purchase keyboards to enable them to practice at home.

Absolutely, the style of music that we learn is completely down to you, the student. I teach a wide range of different genres enabling my students to learn through playing the music that they are passionate about.

In the early stages, I endeavour to cover theory within the pieces that are played. At more advanced levels this may lead to a fuller discussion of the techniques that are required to be learned.

Surprisingly I get asked this question a lot! The answer is no, piano music is created by pianists of all hand sizes - making music that suits their ability to play and therefore your ability to play no matter what hand size you are. While not everyone might be able to have a stretch the size of Beethoven there will be numerous songs that you will be able to learn to play. In fact, more songs than you could ever learn in a lifetime - so don't worry about hand size!

No, not at all. I have taught many left-handed students over the years and would be more than happy to teach you as well.

Not much at all - a small notebook would be a great thing to bring. Other than that just yourself and a healthy dose of motivation to start learning the piano!

Cancelled lessons are expected to be made up, with consultation with the teacher. If it is possible to do so, every effort will be made to rearrange the lesson. If it is not possible, I would appreciate payment for the cancelled lesson.
